IT jobs in Qatar: who hires, salaries and work visas (2026)

IT jobs in Qatar for foreigners in 2026: who hires tech workers in Doha, software engineer salary in Qatar, the Qatar work visa process and the cost of living.

IT jobs in Qatar are concentrated in Doha, and the market is much smaller than in the UAE or Saudi Arabia. On Gulf Dev Jobs on 16 October 2026 we listed 65 English-speaking tech jobs in Doha at 19 companies, against 278 in Riyadh and 193 in Dubai (Doha jobs). The main hirers were IT services and consulting firms working for the government and big state companies, plus Qatar Airways, Ooredoo and QatarEnergy LNG. None of the Doha jobs asked for Arabic.

This guide covers who hires, what software engineers earn in Qatar, how the Qatar work visa works, and what life in Doha costs. Counts come from our own board, which lists only English-speaking employers, so they are a sample, not the whole market.

Who hires tech workers in Qatar

These were the companies with the most open tech jobs in Doha on Gulf Dev Jobs on 16 October 2026:

Company Open jobs in Doha (about) Type
Malomatia 25 Qatari IT company: digital services, data and AI, cybersecurity, cloud
Capco 4 Financial services consulting
Qatar Airways 3 Airline
Artefact 3 Data and AI consulting
Scale AI 2 AI data
Ooredoo 1 Telecoms
QatarEnergy LNG 1 Energy
Cisco, Boston Consulting Group, ProgressSoft, Trend Micro, SGS, Technip Energies 1 each Vendors and consultancies

Malomatia alone had more than a third of the Doha jobs. That makes Qatar a market where a few employers drive most hiring. On the day we checked, Doha had 7 machine learning and AI jobs, and none of the 65 jobs was fully remote.

Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology runs a Digital Agenda 2030 and a government AI programme (MCIT), which is one reason consultancies and IT services firms hire in Doha.

IT jobs at Qatar Airways and in government

Qatar Airways posts IT and digital roles on its own careers site, and we list those that are open to English speakers (Qatar Airways). Malomatia describes itself as providing digital services, data and AI, cybersecurity and cloud services to organisations in Qatar (Malomatia on Gulf Dev Jobs), so it is worth following if you want to work on large Qatari projects.

Software engineer salary in Qatar

Very few Doha ads publish a salary, so self-reported data is the main public source. Levels.fyi, read on 16 October 2026, puts median software engineer total compensation in Qatar at QAR 168,369 a year, about QAR 14,000 a month. The 25th percentile is QAR 72,900 and the 75th QAR 264,000, from only 18 submissions (Levels.fyi). A sample this small can move a lot, so use it as a rough guide only.

For comparison, Numbeo’s average monthly net salary across all jobs in Doha is about QAR 12,124 (Numbeo).

Gulf offers are usually split into basic salary, housing and transport, and the split affects end-of-service pay and other benefits. Our guide on how to read a Gulf job offer explains what to check, and the salary after tax calculator covers Qatar.

Software engineer salary in Qatar for freshers

We found no reliable public figure for entry-level pay in Qatar; the Levels.fyi sample is too small to split by level. Junior roles are scarce across the Gulf: our October 2026 report counted 19 internships and 43 junior jobs out of 1,307 on the whole board. Watch the large employers above for internships and graduate roles.

Tax

Qatar’s General Tax Authority describes income tax as applying to income from business activities, contracts, property, shares and interest in Qatar; salaries are not on its list (GTA). Check with the GTA, and with your home country, which may still tax you.

Jobs in Doha for foreigners

Changing jobs and leaving the country

Qatar changed its sponsorship (kafala) system in 2020. According to the International Labour Organization, “workers can now change jobs at any time, after a notice period of up to two months”, and migrant workers “no longer require an employer-approved exit permit” to leave the country. In March 2021 Qatar also adopted a minimum wage covering all workers (ILO). The ILO runs a cooperation programme with Qatar on labour reforms, now in its third phase from 2024 to 2028 (ILO).

Visa sponsorship

Your employer applies for your work visa and residence permit through the Ministry of Interior (MOI). Few ads say “visa sponsorship” outright, but any employer that hires you from abroad has to sponsor you. See jobs with visa sponsorship and jobs you can apply for from abroad across the Gulf.

Qatar work visa: the process

The exact steps depend on your nationality and your employer, so follow your employer’s instructions. In outline:

  1. You accept a job offer and send your employer your passport copy, photo, degree and other documents.
  2. Your employer applies for the work visa with the Ministry of Interior.
  3. Medical, fingerprints and contract signing. If you live in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines or Sri Lanka, you complete these at a Qatar Visa Centre in your home country before you travel. The Ministry of Interior says the centres let job seekers “complete the most important part of the visa process while they are in their country”, including biometrics, contract signing and medical checks (Gulf Times, July 2024).
  4. You travel to Qatar on your work visa.
  5. Your residence permit (QID) is issued after the in-country steps your employer arranges.

Qatar work visa cost

Ask your employer, in writing, which visa, medical and residence permit costs it pays. Our work visa guide shows that the UAE and Saudi Arabia both make the employer pay these fees by law; we couldn’t confirm the current Qatar fee amounts from an official source, so we don’t quote them here.

Age limit and nationality

We found no official general age limit for Qatar work visas on the Ministry of Interior’s public pages. Rules for specific jobs or nationalities can apply, so ask your employer early.

Degree attestation

Ask your employer early whether your degree must be attested for your visa or job. Qatar Visa Centres list attestation among their services (Gulf Times), and attestation usually starts in the country that issued your degree. Our guide to degree attestation for UAE and Saudi work visas explains how attestation works in general.

Qatar is on GMT+3, the same as Saudi Arabia and one hour behind the UAE (Wikipedia).
